Effective for flights arriving on/after midnight on Friday, June 4 (Japan time), all passengers entering and returning from certain states that have confirmed cases of mutant strain B.1.617, first found in India, are required to stay at the accommodation facility designated by the chief of the quarantine station for 3 days, and take another COVID-19 test on the 3rd day (does not include day of entry). Those who test negative may leave the facility and are required to self-quarantine at your home, hotel or another location during the remaining period of 14 days after entering Japan.

This requirement applies to travelers departing from the following states:
Iowa, Idaho, Arizona, Oklahoma, Oregon, California, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, New York, Nevada, Nebraska, Maine, Montana, Rhode Island

Information may be updated daily.

For details, please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (Japanese page).
In addition, all passengers are required to have a certificate of a negative COVID-19 test result at their departure country before boarding. Those who do not have certifications that clearly indicate a valid specimen collection method, testing method, and testing period will not be permitted entry into Japan.

We will deny boarding if we cannot confirm a valid test certificate upon check-in so please be sure to check off all items on the checklist before heading to the airport. You can also find answers to frequently asked questions here.
